Iranian Steel Producers Association (ISPA) figures released on Saturday showed that Iranian steelmakers exported about $2.97 billion worth of iron and steel in the five months ended August 22, an increase of 10% from the same period last year.
The figures showed that the April-August August period rose 30% year-on-year to 15,732 million tonnes (MT), according to Press TV.
Iran’s steel exports fell 4.7% in the June quarter to $1.6 billion compared to the previous same period.
ISPA figures showed that Iran exported 1,446 million MT, equivalent to $676 million worth of finished steel products from five months to late August, respectively, under 7% and 12% volume and value conditions, respectively, compared to the same period in 2024.
Iran’s mild steel exports rose 10% in the five months from late August to late August, reaching $1.31 billion as cargo rose 25% to 3.161 million mt compared to the same period last year.
Mild or semi-finished steel refers to three types of steel ingots known as billets, blooms, and slabs. It is used primarily for the manufacture of long steel products, which are used in the construction of buildings, roads, bridges and other infrastructure.
The significant increase in raw iron exports from Iran was key to the increase in sector’s hard currency revenues in July and August.
ISPA figures show that between April and August, 11.24 million mt of raw iron was exported, including sponge iron, pellets and concentrates.
