According to Al-Monitor, the UN Security Council voted to reimpose UN sanctions that were frozen on Friday after three European governments stimulated the “snapback” mechanism with a nuclear deal a decade ago.
“It’s clearly been a very difficult time, and it’s a very difficult situation we’re facing right now,” the International Atomic Energy Agency chief said, adding that a meeting between the parties was planned in New York on Monday.
“The key is that communication is continuing. We’re planning on seeing each other today, Monday, here in New York and perhaps more meetings for the week.”
Tehran said actions by European powers — Britain, France and Germany — would undermine months of involvement with the IAEA, aimed at resuming surveillance and ensuring compliance with international regulations.
Earlier this month, Iran and the IAEA reached an agreement in Cairo, allowing testing for Iran’s nuclear presence to resume.
Tehran also criticized the IAEA for not blaming Israel, and the US is on strike at nuclear facilities.
