The Algerian Foreign Ministry said the measure was implemented with official publication in the official official gazette and that the French embassy in Algiers had already been notified in early August.
“The government has notified its French counterparts that citizens who hold diplomatic passports will be required to obtain a visa,” the ministry said, according to the Anadoru Agency.
The announcement comes after French President Emmanuel Macron asked the government to take tighter boundaries with Algeria and suspend its contract in 2013.
Algeria responded with emphasis on never asking for such an arrangement, denounced France for “pushing it on several occasions.” The ministry said the Paris move “gives Algeria the opportunity to revoke the contract clearly and without ambiguity.”
