The document was signed in Moscow on Wednesday by Iran’s Minister of Industry, Mohammad Atabak of Mines and Trade and the Minister of the EAEU’s executive authority responsible for Andrei Slepnev’s trade.
The three-year roadmap signing came after Iran and the EAEU held their first committee meeting on the implementation of free trade transactions.
After signing the roadmap, Atabak said the document would establish a trade and economic cooperation framework between Iran and the EAEU until 2028.
He said roadmap and other documents will be signed between both sides. He said this will increase the level of bilateral cooperation on issues such as halal trade, logistics, transportation and customs operations.
Russian TASS News Agency describes Slepnev as a “comprehensive document” and roadmap covering issues such as transportation logistics and the north-south transportation corridors passing through Iran and Russia.
“We have agreed to the formation of the Green Customs corridor, digitalisation and the transition to electronic transport.
A free trade agreement between Iran and the EAEU, signed in December 2023, allows Iran to enjoy tariff-free exports at nearly 87% of its trade with members of the bloc, namely Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia.
Iran and the EAEU previously had priority trade agreements based on a transaction signed in Armenia in June 2017.
Iran also signed a contract to become an observer member of the bloc at a meeting of the EAEU Supreme Council in St. Petersburg, Russia.
