President Masoud Pezeshkian says efforts to strengthen relations with European countries have not progressed as expected, leading to the current situation where three European countries are trying to implement so-called snapback mechanisms against Iran.
Pezeschkian met with Finland’s President Alexander Stubb on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) held in New York on Wednesday.
The Iranian president emphasized that Iran has no intention of creating nuclear weapons and is open to transparency on the issue. However, Pezeshkian emphasized that there is a great distrust of the West due to their commitment and the history of the US and European countries that do not support military attacks on Iran during negotiations. Nevertheless, he asserted that diplomacy remains the only viable solution to overcome this mistrust.
He said promoting multilateralism and avoiding unilateralism is the most effective way to strengthen and strengthen international interactions, highlighting the need for international organizations, particularly the United Nations, to act more responsibly in creating and maintaining peace and stability. “Specifically, effective and practical steps should be taken to stop the crimes of the Zionist regime.”
For him, Stubb emphasized that the only way to overcome the problems of the international environment is through dialogue and understanding promoted by diplomacy.
He said, “We need true multilateralism and we must ensure that multipolar spaces do not replace multilateralism as the world moves away from one-sided things.”
