Foreign Minister Abbas Araguchi has held over 31 bilateral meetings, attended high-level multilateral forums, firmly defended Iran’s rights to Western pressure, and ended the week of packed in the US.
In an assessment of his recent mission to New York, Iran’s top diplomat explained that the trip was a “completely intensive” week marked by diverse diplomatic engagements.
The Minister emphasized that while some of the agenda focuses on illegal attempts to stimulate snapback mechanisms, Tehran used the opportunity to expand bilateral relations, strengthen multilateral cooperation, and advance Iran’s position on key international issues.
“I met bilaterally with foreign ministers from over 31 countries. Along with discussions on the nuclear issue, I exchanged views on bilateral relations, reviewed my outlook for cooperation, and reached an understanding of economic partnerships and joint committees,” Araguchi said.
He highlighted Iran’s active presence at large international conferences, including the global development summit convened by China, and the session commemorating the 1500th anniversary of the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), which Iran launched with an organisation of Islamic cooperation.
Aragut also joined the Quadrilateral Summit in Russia, China, Pakistan and Afghanistan, highlighting the role of Tehran’s constructive region beyond the framework of the United Nations.
The Foreign Minister recalled his meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, during which Iran repeated his position with an illegal snapback push. “What we faced was a clear attempt to draw unreasonable concessions from Iran. In contrast, we expressed a completely rational proposal that even our European counterparts admitted to be logical,” he said.
He went on to say that despite intensive consultations with the European trio, the UN Secretary-General and the IAEA Director-General, there is no way to reach a compromise due to the excessive demands of the US and the cooperation of Europeans.
According to Aragut, Iran’s position is clear. An agreement that undermines the rights and interests of the people of Iran would not be accepted.
The overall activity showed that Iran’s foreign policy of the Islamic Republic is taking all necessary steps to protect Iran’s interests until the last moment, Araguchi stressed.
“The message was exchanged directly and indirectly with Americans. Ultimately, we ensured that everything that needed to be done was done, and the interpretations expressed by the leaders were revealed and proved once again.
“They imagined that the ‘monsters’ they created from the snapback mechanism would scare us unless we were willing to make concessions. This is absolutely not true. ”
“Today, I spoke with the UN Secretary-General about the measures the UN Secretariat must take, some of which have already begun. From now on, we are facing legal challenges at the Security Council and the UN.
“We are currently facing a new situation for the Security Council, the United Nations and the International Atomic Energy Agency. From our perspective, there was no consensus on the Security Council to adopt a snapback decision. Russia and China believe that such a consensus did not exist.”
“These issues must now be discussed and reviewed by the highest national security council and its nuclear committees, and based on the overall situation, we will do anything that serves the interests of the nation.
Three states, the US and Europe, have misused the JCPOA snapback mechanism to revive non-sanctions against Iran. Iranian officials have repeatedly emphasized that Tehran is fully compliant with its commitment and that it is Washington and its allies who have violated international law and diplomacy. Diplomacy Ministers’ Diplomacy Week in New York demonstrates Iran’s strategy to resist illegal pressure and expand constructive international engagement.
