During a meeting with intellectuals and political, social and cultural activists in Bandar Abbas on Thursday, Pezeshkian urged civil servants and citizens alike to trust domestic capabilities and public support, and to maintain momentum despite the pressure, news television reported.
“We must not forget our national goals, dignity and pride. We must move in line, towards one Qibla, under one leadership. This is the meaning of congregational prayer. Unity.
“The enemy thinks that assassinations will allow our nation to kneel, but thousands of people are ready to raise this flag,” he said.
One of the latest assassination plots occurred in June when the Israeli regime launched an unprovoked invasion of Iran, targeting top military commanders and nuclear scientists, and killing hundreds of civilians.
Pezeschkian also pointed to the illegal sanctions imposed on the state over a peaceful nuclear program, saying they cannot block the country’s path. “Those who fear sanctions do not believe that relying on God and people can continue their path.”
Comments arise as the UN Security Council recovered anti-Iran sanctions lifted under the 2015 nuclear deal on Sunday. Sanctions will again freeze Iran’s assets overseas, with stopping weapons dealing with the Islamic Republic and targeting the country’s defense missile programme.
The sanctions have returned as part of the so-called snapback mechanism, three European parties in the deal that were used after Iran accused Iran of violating the contract, despite his failure to stick to some of its commitments.
