The president said in a statement issued by Hamas “we are welcome and encouraged,” spokesman Stephen Dujaric said in a statement.
The UN chief urged all parties to seize an opportunity to end the conflict in the Gaza Strip and thanked Qatar and Egypt for their valuable mediation work, the spokesman said.
Dujarric said the Secretary-General has repeated his calls for immediate and permanent ceasefire, immediate and unconditional release of all hostages, and free humanitarian access. “The United Nations will support any effort towards these purposes to prevent more suffering.”
Hamas announced Friday that it had submitted its response to Trump’s Gaza peace proposal to regional and international mediators. This stated that in principle it was agreed to release all of the hostages of both Israelis who died and alive.
During the press conference, the Palestinian armed groups also agreed to transfer Gaza’s regime to an independent Palestinian technical group.
