Abu Marzuk told Qatar’s Al Jazeera network that Hamas will “hand over arms to the future Palestinian state,” emphasizing that Gaza’s fate is “a national issue that Hamas alone cannot determine.”
He said the group accepted the “main summary” of Trump’s proposal, but emphasized that its application would require “detailed negotiations by mediators.”
“Hamas will negotiate all issues related to the movement and its weapons,” Abu Marzouk said.
He added that the resistance group’s weapons will be handed over “to those who govern Gaza in the coming state of Palestine.”
“The future for our people is a national issue,” he said, urging Washington to “see the future of Palestinians positively.”
Abu Marzuk confirmed that there is a “national agreement” to transfer Gaza’s regime to an independent figure along with the Palestinian authorities.
He rejected attempts to brand Hamas as a terrorist organization, confirming it was a “national liberation movement.”
Hamas previously said it had approved the release of all Israeli prisoners, delivery of bodies and transfer of the Gaza regime to neutral Palestinian technical groups as part of its response to Trump’s plans.
The movement stated that other aspects of the proposal, particularly those relating to the future of Gaza and the rights of the Palestinians, must be determined collectively by all state factions in accordance with international law.
According to Palestinian sources cited by Anadolu, Hamas has submitted a formal response to the mediator and is seeking explanation of some of the terms. The group said it had “detailed consultations within leadership and with Palestinian factions, mediators and allies” before reaching its position.
The White House plan, issued on September 29, calls for the creation of a transitional governance mechanism to oversee the immediate ceasefire, the reconstruction of Gaza, and the political and security issues of the enclave. It aims to turn Gaza into a so-called “unweaponed zone” under international organizations that Trump himself overseen.
Trump on Friday indicated Hamas’ response was ready to “continue peace,” and said that he would urge Israel to “stop the Gaza bombing soon so that hostages can be released safely.”
“This isn’t just Gaza,” he said in the Society of Truth. “This is about peace for many years in the Middle East.”
Since October 2023, Israel’s relentless bombardment and siege has killed nearly 66,300 Palestinians (mostly women and children) and left the enclave in abandoned.
Gaza’s 2.4 million residents remain trapped under a choking blockade that choked food, medicine and fuel supplies, creating a state of starvation that the UN agency described as catastrophic.
Rights groups have long denounced the Israeli regime for collective punishment and systematic war crimes, but Palestinian resistance argues that real peace must begin with ending the profession, siege and restoring Palestinian rights.
