“Ten years after the JCPOA was enacted, the UNSC reimposed sanctions against Iran. We engaged in a very intensive diplomatic effort with Iran before the 30-day window after a snapback triggered by France, Germany and the UK.
“However, this was not to create any possible conditions for a relevant UNSC resolution. The European Union will reimpose all previously lifted UN and EU-related sanctions without delay,” Karas said.
“But the snapback of sanctions and nuclear restrictions should not be the end of diplomacy. In this spirit, I will continue to reach out to all stakeholders, including Iran,” she pointed out.
As sustainable solutions to Iran’s nuclear issue can only be achieved through negotiation and diplomacy, Karas added, “Together we can work to make Iran a responsible partner in the region.”
