In response to questions from correspondent Mehr, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said at a regular press conference on Monday that “consultations with Russia are continuing at various levels, and there is continued communication between missions in New York.”
He added, “Russia, a permanent member and as a replacement president of the Security Council, has made its position clear about the illegality of European countries’ actions.”
The spokesman also said “China and other members of the Security Council are opposed to the action.”
“Some countries are being forced to accept this measure under increasing pressure from three European countries and the US,” Baghaei added.
“Currently, Iran does not have (IAEA) tests. The last test was made at Busher Power Station at least 10 days ago. The decision regarding the future of the test is at the highest National Security Council.”
Three European powers France, Germany and the UK, which were participants in Iran’s nuclear deal, known as the JCPOA, sparked a snapback mechanism that returned previous UN sanctions on Iran a few weeks ago. Iran, along with Russia and China, viewed their move as illegal as they themselves could not withstand their commitment to the JCPOA after the illicit US withdrawal from TE deals in 2018.
