The court found Ali Muhammad Ali Abd al-Rahman guilty of 27 crimes and war crimes against humanity and war crimes, including rape, murder and persecution. Reuters reported that his ruling will be decided at a later date after a new round of hearing.
Since the case was introduced to court by the UN Security Council in 2005, the first and only trial conviction considering a crime in Sudan is an ICC landmark.
The Darfur conflict first exploded in 2003, when most non-Arab rebels accused the Sudanese government of alienating remote western territory.
The then Sudan government mobilized Arab militia, mostly known as Janjaweed, to crush the rebellion and unleashed a wave of violence that the US and human rights groups said was the equivalent of genocide.
Judge Joanna Corner said the trial room unanimously found Abd al-Rahman, who was found guilty of all crimes he was charged with and dismissing his defense that he was a victim of a false identity.
