Rear Admiral Alireza Tansiri emphasized the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, calling it “the world’s energy artery,” and said that Iran has always ensured its security and kept it open. “But is it logical that the world benefits from this strait and Iran does not?” he questioned.
The head of the Revolutionary Guards Navy warned of the environmental risks posed by nuclear-powered vessels in the Persian Gulf, recalling past accidents between Japanese ships and US submarines that caused oil leaks and ecological damage.
He criticized the presence of foreign troops in the region, saying they were creating hostility to justify their continued presence.
“Iran has not attacked any country in the past 300 years,” he said, adding, “Iran does not seek hostility, but we will resolutely protect our national interests.”
Maj. Gen. Tansiri reiterated that the final decision to close or keep the Strait of Hormuz open rests with Iranian officials and depends on the level of external pressure on Iran’s oil exports.
Tansiri highlighted Iran’s defense achievements and said the country had reached complete military self-sufficiency. “Today, we are proud to be one of the countries that can export missiles, drones and naval vessels,” he concluded.
