Three employees of Qatar’s highest government body, the Amiri Diwan, died in a car crash near Egypt’s Red Sea resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh, the Qatari embassy in Egypt announced in a post on X on Sunday.
The embassy said two other people were injured and were receiving necessary treatment at a city hospital.
It said the bodies of the injured and dead will be repatriated to Doha later on Sunday.
Earlier, two security sources told Reuters that a car carrying Qatari diplomats overturned on a curve in a road 50 kilometers from the city.
The incident occurred days after Qatari, Turkish and Egyptian officials took part in indirect talks in Sharm el-Sheikh earlier this week, leading to an agreement between Israel and Hamas on the first phase of US President Donald Trump’s plan to end the war in Gaza.
The Egyptian city is scheduled to host a world summit on Monday aimed at finalizing the deal.
