“Iran is grateful for President El-Sisi’s invitation to the Sharm el-Sheikh summit. While we support diplomatic engagement, neither President Pezeshkian nor I can engage with a partner that continues to attack the Iranian people, threaten and sanction us,” he wrote on X on Sunday night.
“Having said that, Iran welcomes all efforts to end Israel’s genocide in Gaza and ensure the expulsion of the occupying forces,” Iran’s top diplomat stressed, stressing that the Palestinian people have a full right to secure their fundamental right to self-determination and that all states remain obliged, now more than ever, to support the Palestinian people in their lawful and just cause.
“Iran has been, and will continue to be, an important force for peace in the region. In contrast to the genocidal Israeli regime, Iran is not forever at war, especially in the interests of its purported allies; it seeks eternal peace, prosperity, and cooperation.”
A peace summit aimed at ending the war in Gaza will be held in the Egyptian city of Sharm el-Sheikh on Monday. The summit, co-chaired by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi and US President Donald Trump, will include leaders from more than 20 countries and is expected to formally sign the Gaza ceasefire agreement during the summit.
