“The 12-day war has taught us as many lessons as 12 years,” Maj. Gen. Amir Khatami said Monday during a meeting with members of parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee in Tehran to discuss political, security and military developments in the region. “Based on those lessons, we adopted a new approach to countering threats of all kinds.”
Khatami said global power relations are increasingly dominated by the use of force rather than diplomacy. “Today we face a world where some people are trying to take over the world under the slogan ‘peace through strength,’ but in reality it means dominating the world by force,” he said, adding that diplomacy is “much weaker than before.”
He cited Israel’s invasions of Gaza, Iran, Syria, Lebanon and Qatar as examples of the “logic of coercion.” The only way to overcome this logic, he said, echoing the words of Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, leader of the Islamic Revolution, is to “become strong and powerful.”
Congressional committee chairman Ebrahim Azizi also said Congress supports efforts to strengthen deterrence against Iran. “All pillars of the Islamic system are obliged to make electricity generation their main goal,” Azizi said, adding that Congress will continue to support this goal through legislation and budgeting.
