Current issues of Azerbaijani-Iranian cooperation were discussed during a meeting between Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev and Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Farzaneh Sadegh in Baku today, Azerbaijan’s Cabinet of Ministers told Trend.
At this meeting, everyone listened to the thorough development of bilateral relations and left every mark in its evaluation.
Both sides exchanged views on current issues, especially on the agenda of mutually beneficial cooperation in transport, energy, customs and other fields.
As part of the project to develop the transportation network between Azerbaijan’s Eastern Zangezur Economic Region and the Autonomous Republic of Nakhchivan, the parties discussed the completion of the construction of the Agband Karare road bridge over the Araz River and customs border infrastructure.
Both sides also considered current issues related to the development of the North-South International Transport Corridor.
The meeting also noted that freight traffic along the North-South Corridor increased by 8.3% in the first nine months of 2025, of which 10.4% was by road transport and 2% by rail transport.
The importance of concerted efforts to expand infrastructure along the corridor and ensure sustainable growth in cargo volumes was highlighted, with a focus on the completion of construction work on the Southern Freight Terminal, a key component of the corridor.
Both sides also exchanged views on the necessary measures to ensure the full operation of the motorable bridge constructed over the Astarachai River.
At the same time, both parties emphasized the importance of the Azerbaijan-Iran-Russia talks held in Baku with a view to further expanding trade, economic, transport and energy ties between the three countries.
