YouTube has resolved a brief but widespread outage that disrupted streaming services for thousands of users around the world.
According to Downdetector, the issue started on Wednesday night (October 15) and affected YouTube’s main platform and YouTube TV. According to the outage tracking website, more than 3,66,000 users in the US reported issues accessing YouTube. Similar disruptions were recorded in the UK, Canada, and Australia, where users encountered playback errors, app crashes, and login issues.
YouTube confirmed the outage and also shared the following post on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter): “The issue affecting video playback has been resolved. Thank you for your patience.”
However, the company has not disclosed the root cause of the outage, leading users and analysts to speculate that it may be due to a technical glitch, server overload, or widespread infrastructure failure.
The YouTube outage began around 7:55 p.m. ET and lasted several hours. YouTube has faced occasional outages in the past, but the scale of this incident was notable as it affected multiple platforms and regions simultaneously. Downdetector’s data is based on user-submitted reports and social media activity, providing a real-time snapshot of service disruptions.
