The meeting was held on the evening of Wednesday, October 15, during which Minister Araguchi expressed his gratitude to the Government of Uganda for hosting the NAM Summit and stressed the importance of strengthening solidarity and cooperation among member states to uphold the fundamental principles of the movement, uphold the rule of law and support the right of nations to self-determination.
Foreign Minister Aragushi emphasized Iran’s proactive approach towards expanding cooperation with the African continent and reaffirmed Iran’s readiness to strengthen bilateral relations with Uganda in the economic, agricultural and commercial fields.
The Iranian Foreign Minister also expressed gratitude for Uganda’s principled stance in condemning the Israeli regime’s military aggression against Iran.
President Museveni welcomed the long-standing relationship between the two countries, based on mutual respect and common interests, and underlined Kampala’s determination to deepen ties with Tehran.
According to diplomatic sources, the two countries agreed to hold a meeting of the Iran-Uganda Joint Economic Commission in the near future to accelerate the implementation of joint projects and further revitalize bilateral relations.
