Pezeshkian said Wednesday that enemies are constantly trying to sow discord and weaken Muslim countries.
He made the remarks during a session outlining Iran’s position on recent tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Mr. Pezeshkian said that Islamic countries reject conflict and division, and that such unrest is the result of “conspiracy by the enemy and international Zionism.”
He said the renewed tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan are causing serious concerns among regional countries, including Iran, which shares borders with both countries.
He said Islamic countries with common roots and culture hold “unbreakable bonds of faith and culture” and must work together to promote peace, justice and progress.
Mr. Pezeshkian reiterated that Iran will use all available resources to reduce tensions, promote dialogue and strengthen relations between the neighboring countries.
“Promoting dialogue and fraternal relations will help reduce tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan,” he said.
He added that the region needs peace, unity and cooperation now more than ever, and expressed confidence that both governments and peoples will resolve their differences with wisdom.
Pakistan and Afghanistan agreed on Wednesday to a temporary 48-hour ceasefire after fresh border clashes left dozens of people dead and injured.
Pakistan’s foreign ministry said the ceasefire agreement came into effect at 6pm local time, with a short break, amid concerns that a resurgence of skirmishes could spark further violence.
