Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Wednesday that at the request of the Afghan side, Pakistan and Afghanistan have agreed to a temporary 48-hour ceasefire to ease border tensions, according to Xinhua news agency.
“During this period, both sides will make sincere efforts to find a positive solution to this complex but solvable issue through constructive dialogue,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
On the same day, Afghan government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid announced on social media that a ceasefire would be implemented between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
President Mujahid said that at the request and insistence of Pakistan, the ceasefire between the two countries will come into effect on Wednesday. The Afghan government has instructed all forces to abide by the ceasefire unless the other side launches an attack.
The announcement came after several days of cross-border gunfire between the two countries.
Earlier in the day, Pakistani security forces attacked various targets in Afghanistan’s Kandahar and Kabul provinces, a security force official said.
