“The attack on a major Russian oil and gas company has destabilized global energy markets, ultimately impacting consumers around the world, including ordinary British people and local businesses,” the embassy said in a statement.
He said the measures would also exacerbate energy insecurity in the Global South.
“Contrary to loud assurances from British leaders, these restrictions will not affect Russia’s foreign policy,” it added. “The time has come for London to realize that attempts to intimidate our country, or talk to us in terms of sanctions and threats, are pointless and futile.”
The embassy said Britain’s actions were “triggered by the growing desperation of the British establishment” amid the “deteriorating position” of Ukrainian forces on the battlefield.
Sanctions “will only complicate peaceful dialogue and lead to further escalation,” he said, insisting that Russia would continue to protect its national interests and ensure economic stability.
The British government announced a new sanctions package early Wednesday targeting Rosneft, Lukoil, several banks, and dozens of tankers and companies from China, the United Arab Emirates, India, Thailand and Singapore accused of helping transport Russian oil.
The move is part of the London government’s continued efforts to limit Russia’s energy revenues as the war in Ukraine continues.
