Speaking after the NAM Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Kampala, Uganda, on Thursday, Araguchi said the NAM has released a comprehensive final statement containing more than 1,500 paragraphs addressing global political, economic and social issues.
He noted that Iran’s proposal included several important additions, including condemnation of the attack by the United States and the Zionist regime on Iranian territory in mid-June. The statement also expressed solidarity with Iran against the act of aggression, it added.
Another article condemned terrorist attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities and also condemned terrorist acts in Lebanon that targeted communications systems.
Mr. Aragushi highlighted the pivotal text affirming that UN Security Council Resolution 2231, which approved the 2015 nuclear deal, remains in full force and must be implemented. NAM stressed that the draft resolution is scheduled to expire on October 18, in accordance with the deadline and Article 8.
All remaining UN sanctions related to Iran’s nuclear program will officially expire once the resolution expires.
Araghchi said this unified position is consistent with the positions of Iran, Russia and China, and is in direct opposition to the interpretation advanced by the United States and some European countries regarding the snapback mechanism.
Araghchi said NAM’s support for Iran’s legal position is a major diplomatic victory.
