Seven Pakistani soldiers were killed in a suicide bomb attack near the Afghan border on Friday, Pakistani security officials said, amid a fragile ceasefire between Islamabad and Kabul that paused days of heavy fighting.
The South Asian neighbors engaged in a fierce ground war, with Pakistan also launching airstrikes across the disputed border, killing dozens and injuring hundreds before reaching a 48-hour ceasefire scheduled to end at 1pm (1pm Japan time) on Friday.
Five security officials said a militant attack on a Pakistani military camp in northern Waziristan killed one soldier and injured 13 others, Reuters reported.
One insurgent rammed a vehicle loaded with explosives into the perimeter wall of the military camp, while two others were shot dead as they tried to enter the compound.
Pakistan’s military did not respond to requests for comment.
