According to Al-Mayadeen news agency, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that cooperation between Russia and Iran will continue in accordance with Russia’s laws and international obligations, stressing that the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement between the two countries provides a solid foundation for future cooperation.
The statement called on all parties involved to focus on preventing new tensions, adding that the Russian government was ready to use all available means to facilitate this process.
As cited by RIA Novosti, the ministry further noted that European attempts to reimpose UN sanctions against Iran that were lifted under Resolution 2231 had failed.
Security Council resolution 2231, which approved the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), entered into force on October 18, 2015, and its 10-year period expires on Saturday. As a result, all arms and missile-related restrictions set out in the resolution have now been lifted under international law, and recent European claims to maintain certain restrictions are legally unfounded.
