The 48-hour ceasefire sparked nearly a week of bloody border clashes that left dozens of soldiers and civilians dead on both sides.
“Pakistan has broken the ceasefire and bombed three locations in Paktika province,” a senior Taliban official told AFP late Friday on condition of anonymity. “Afghanistan will retaliate.”
Ten civilians were killed and 12 injured in the attack, a state hospital official told AFP on condition of anonymity, adding that two children were among the dead.
Officials from both countries will hold peace talks in Doha on Saturday, an Afghan government spokesperson said in a statement after the attack.
“As promised, negotiations with the Pakistani side will take place today in Doha,” President Zabihullah Mujahid said in a statement.
He said a high-level Afghan delegation led by Defense Minister Mullah Muhammad Yaqoob had left for Doha.
Meanwhile, Pakistan state television reported that Defense Minister Khawaja Asif and Intelligence Secretary Asim Malik will head to Doha on Saturday for talks with the Afghan Taliban.
Earlier on Saturday, the Afghanistan Cricket Board said in a statement that three players who were in the region for a tournament were killed and seven others injured in a recent airstrike along with five others in a “despicable attack by the Pakistani regime.”
