Protesters attacked security forces with arrows and improvised explosive devices during a rally to denounce US President Donald Trump’s policies outside the US embassy in the Colombian capital on Friday, injuring four police officers, local authorities confirmed, according to Lebanon’s Al-Mayadeen TV English website.
Bogotá’s mayor, Carlos Fernando Galan, said: “The thugs, some in hoods, attacked the embassy using incendiary devices, explosives and arrows.” The officers suffered injuries to their faces, legs and arms, Galan said.
Images released by the Defense Ministry showed scenes of chaos near the embassy, including one police officer with an arrow stuck in his arm.
The protest was organized by a group calling itself the Congreso de los Pueblos (People’s Congress). Spokesman Jimmy Moreno told AFP that the purpose of the demonstration was to reject US intervention in Latin America and denounce what he called US complicity in the “genocide of the Palestinian people.”
