Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in an interview with ISNA that based on the common position of Iran, Russia and China, the snapback mechanism has not been triggered and UN Security Council Resolution 2231 has officially expired.
“With the expiration of this resolution, all (United Nations) Security Council restrictions on Iran will be completely lifted and the Iranian (nuclear program) issue will be removed from the Council’s agenda,” Araghchi said.
He added that this position has wide support internationally. “At the recent Non-Aligned Movement Summit, more than 120 countries endorsed this position in their final communique,” he noted.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Araghchi stressed that the extensive cooperation between Tehran and Moscow reflects a sustainable and long-term partnership, which was further strengthened with the signing of a comprehensive 20-year cooperation agreement.
He also referred to past discussions regarding the snapback mechanism, saying that “all relevant details were recorded in the official negotiating document and reiterated in previous interviews.”
Araghchi concluded that “the key priority now is to strengthen the position of Iran and like-minded countries in the Security Council, while maintaining national unity and coherence to advance our country’s highest interests.”
