According to Ryan Grimm of Drop Site News, both the White House and the Pentagon quickly acknowledged that the explosion was caused by a bulldozer operated by an Israeli settlement company running over an unexploded ordnance, rather than a Hamas tunnel attack, and denounced Netanyahu’s claim that Hamas fighters had emerged from the tunnel, Al-Mayadeen newspaper reported on Monday.
The footage also shows Israeli excavators destroying the remains of a damaged building in Rafah, further supporting this claim.
Grimm points out that after Netanyahu falsely blamed the explosion on the Palestinian resistance movement, especially Hamas, and responded by blocking aid to Gaza and launching a massive bombing campaign, the US government quickly told Israel it knew the true cause.
Shortly after, Prime Minister Netanyahu announced the resumption of transit into the Gaza Strip, and the Israeli occupation command announced that it would reinstate the ceasefire.
