Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali said that 87% of trade between Iran and Russia was exempted from customs duties.
Jalali told reporters on Wednesday that Khorasan province can play a very effective role in maintaining relations with neighboring countries and Russia.
He added that the north-south corridor has three branches: the western branch through Azerbaijan, the central branch through the Caspian Sea and the eastern branch through Turkmenistan.
He added that the eastern route passes through Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iran, and the provinces of eastern and northeastern Iran play an important role in this route.
Trade between the two countries was $650 million in 2023, but it rose to $1.8 billion last year, Jalali said. He also pointed out that trade volume will reach $3 billion by the end of 2025.
The diplomat referred to the free trade agreement between Iran and Eurasian countries, including Russia, which he said had been approved and implemented in the past, and states with high economic capacity could increase exports to Russia within the framework of this agreement.
