According to Mehr News Agency, the details of the law regarding Iran’s accession to the International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism, which was approved by Iran’s parliament on December 5, 2018, were officially communicated by the President through Letter No. 123072 dated October 21, 2025.
The law was sent to the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Information, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Economy and Finance, and Central Bank of Iran for implementation.
The Act consists of a preamble, 28 articles, and annexes. Under the law, the Iranian government is required to evaluate its communications with the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) six months after the deposition of accession documents, particularly regarding Iran’s permanent removal from the list of non-cooperating countries. If FATF member states fail to take action or delay the process, Iran reserves the right to reconsider its accession to the treaty.
Of the seven conditions established for Iran to join the CFT, one of the most important is Article 5, which specifies that Iran’s accession to the treaty does not imply recognition of or establishment of a relationship with the Zionist regime.
