Palestinian factions met in the Egyptian capital Cairo to discuss developments in the Palestinian issue and consider the second phase of President Trump’s plan to end the war in the Gaza Strip.
The troops present affirmed their rejection of all forms of annexation and displacement, while the current stage calls for a national political vision based on a unified national position and a unified voice.
The factions also agreed to support and continue to implement the steps of the ceasefire agreement, including Israel’s withdrawal, complete lifting of the siege, opening of all borders, including the Rafah border, allowing entry for all humanitarian and medical needs, and starting a comprehensive reconstruction process.
The factions also agreed to hand over control of the Gaza Strip to an ad hoc Palestinian commission made up of independent local “technocrats” that would work with Arab states and international organizations to manage day-to-day operations and basic services, and to establish an international commission to oversee the financing and implementation of Gaza’s reconstruction.
The two leaders also agreed to take all necessary measures to maintain security and stability in the Strip, and stressed the importance of issuing a UN resolution on a temporary international force to be formed to monitor the ceasefire.
In addition to the above, the parties decided to call for an end to all forms of torture and violations of prisoners in Israeli prisons and the need for compliance with international law and treaties.
Finally, the Leaders resolved to continue joint efforts to unify vision and positions in the face of challenges, as well as calling for an emergency meeting of all Palestinian forces and factions to agree on a national strategy and revitalize the Palestine Liberation Organization as the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people.
