Kazem Ghalibabadi, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs (Legal Affairs and International Affairs), announced that the ambassadors and permanent representatives of Russia, China and Iran have sent a joint letter to International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director-General Rafael Grossi.
In a post on his X account, Mr. Gharibabadi wrote that today, within the framework of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ diplomatic efforts, the ambassadors and permanent representatives of the three countries of the International Atomic Energy Agency sent a joint letter to the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, after Russia, China and Iran announced the termination of Resolution 2231 in a joint letter to the UN Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council on October 18.
In his letter, he said that all provisions of resolution 2231 were announced to have expired on October 18, while outlawing the actions of the three European countries in triggering the snapback. However, there is another important point: this concludes the Agency Director’s report on verification and monitoring in light of the implementation of Resolution 2231 and the JCPOA.
In this regard, the Under Secretary of Foreign Affairs further stated, “In this regard, the Agency has established verification and monitoring in Iran based on the Council resolution of December 15, 2015 and in the light of resolution 2231 and the implementation of the JCPOA.”
“Paragraph 14 of this resolution states, without qualification, that the Security Council decides to keep this issue on the agenda for a period of 10 years or until the date on which the IAEA Director-General releases a more comprehensive summary report on Iran, whichever is earlier. Therefore, the relevant items on the IAEA’s agenda in this regard will be automatically removed from October 18 and no further action is required in this regard,” it added.
