According to Mehr News Agency, at a public session of Iran’s parliament on Sunday, lawmakers approved an amendment to Article 3 of the National Artificial Intelligence Bill that calls for the establishment of an independent national AI organization using existing national resources.
The organization’s secretariat will function under the supervision of the President and ensure coordination among relevant government agencies in the implementation of the National AI Strategy.
Under the approved measure, the head of the national artificial intelligence organization would be appointed by the president.
The organization is also required to work with the Vice President for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy to draft a code within three months of the law’s entry into force.
