On Monday, a ceremony was held at the Pakistan Embassy venue in Tehran on the occasion of Kashmir Black Day.
In his address to journalists at the event, Ambassador of Pakistan to Iran Muhammad Mudasir Tipu highlighted the growing trend in Tehran-Islamabad relations, saying that bilateral relations are excellent and have steadily improved in recent years.
He pointed out that while Pakistan has supported Iran during difficult times, Iran was also providing political support to Pakistan during the height of tensions with India.
Noting recent developments in bilateral cooperation, the Ambassador said the two countries have finalized a legal framework that facilitates barter trade, eliminates barriers to financial transactions, and enables the direct exchange of goods across their common borders. He expressed hope that the mechanism would significantly expand trade in multiple areas and announced plans to hold further meetings with Iranian partners for effective implementation.
The envoy called on Iranian media to raise public awareness about the benefits of the barter system, adding that he would work with universities, chambers of commerce and the business community to promote understanding of this trade mechanism.
He further revealed that Tehran and Islamabad are finalizing a free trade agreement (FTA) and that talks are underway to revitalize the Pakistan-Iran-Turkey rail transport corridor, especially the Quetta-Taftan route, to strengthen regional connectivity.
Commenting on political relations, he said they were at a good level, citing regular contacts between senior officials from the two countries, including heads of state and foreign ministers.
The ambassador added that Pakistan’s interior minister is scheduled to visit Iran soon for high-level talks.
