“There is nothing that could or should further strain relations between Moscow and Washington, especially since they are already at a minimum,” the spokesperson said, as reported by TASS news agency.
“So far, only the first interim steps have been taken to bring bilateral relations out of the previous stagnation,” Peskov added.
The day before, the Russian General Staff informed President Putin of the successful completion of the Burevestnik missile test at a nuclear facility. The weapon is highly autonomous and can fly at low altitudes and over long distances, reducing its vulnerability to air defense systems.
Since Donald Trump took office as US president, Russia and the US have been working to normalize bilateral relations. However, the US government has recently reportedly taken rather unfriendly measures, such as imposing sanctions on Russia’s oil sector, in an effort to bring about a settlement on the Ukraine issue.
The Russian government stressed that it does not make decisions under pressure and that U.S. actions will not contribute to normalizing relations. Moreover, they will only increase energy prices around the world, primarily harming U.S. consumers.
