In a meeting with Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, the Iranian president said that relations between Iran and Pakistan are warm and outstanding, rooted in brotherhood and mutual trust. He expressed confidence that the exchanges between the two countries could serve as a model for other countries and further strengthen ties between the two countries, according to a report on the talks on the website of the Iranian presidential palace.
In a session held on the sidelines of the 4th ECO Interior Ministers’ Conference in Tehran on Tuesday, Foreign Minister Pezeshkian said that the Iranian people consider the Pakistani people as brothers and was satisfied with the close and cordial exchanges between the two countries, noting the deep historical and religious ties between the two countries.
He expressed hope that Naqvi’s visit to Tehran will facilitate the implementation of previous agreements and bring positive results for both countries.
Furthermore, the Iranian President emphasized the need for efforts to reduce regional tensions and avoid conflict, and expressed Iran’s readiness to assist in resolving the conflict between Pakistan and Afghanistan. “Today, more than ever, it is imperative that Muslim countries unite in unity and brotherhood against a common enemy,” he added.
Mr. Naqvi acknowledged the success of the ECO meeting and thanked Iran for its hospitality. The Prime Minister stated that this was his fourth visit to Iran in the past year, and emphasized the depth of the relationship between the two countries.
The minister recalled President Pezeshkian’s historic visit to Pakistan and said that bilateral relations are good. He noted positive progress in border cooperation and counter-terrorism efforts, and expressed hope that the agreement would yield tangible results.
He said cooperation between the two countries in combating terrorism and managing border issues is progressing well, while also addressing common concerns regarding illegal immigration.
In conclusion, Mr. Naqvi expressed his appreciation for Iran’s principled stand, welcomed Iran’s active role in de-escalating tensions, especially between Islamabad and Kabul, and reinforced the commitment to continue close cooperation.
