The incident occurred at Camp Reed, where the 5th Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, U.S. Army is based. This unit arrived in February to replace elements of the 30th Infantry Regiment.
“At 4:30 pm on October 17, allied forces detected drones flying in close proximity to the premises of the 2nd Infantry Brigade, one of which was shot down using an anti-drone rifle,” Estonian Defense Forces spokesperson Ries Vaksman told Postimees on Tuesday.
She added that the crashed UAV has not yet been recovered, according to RT.
NATO sent additional jets to patrol its eastern flank after Poland accused Russia of violating its airspace with more than a dozen drones on September 9. In a separate incident a week later, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that two Belarusians had been detained for flying a drone over government buildings in Warsaw. Moscow has denied involvement in both incidents.
On September 19, Estonia claimed that three Russian MiG-31 fighter jets entered its airspace and remained there for more than 10 minutes. Russia’s Defense Ministry said the flight “was carried out in strict accordance with international law and did not violate the borders of any country.”
