In a meeting with Herat Governor Noor Ahmad Islamjar, Iranian officials emphasized the deep-rooted ties of neighborliness, brotherhood, and cultural and religious values between the two countries.
Mr. Gharibabadi emphasized the need to strengthen cooperation to address existing challenges and strengthen economic and trade relations.
President Islamjar welcomed Mr. Ghalibabadi’s visit and expressed his enthusiasm for expanding economic cooperation between Iran and Afghanistan. He pointed to joint projects such as the Qahherat railway and called for Iran’s support for extending the railway to Mazar-e-Sharif city.
Afghan officials also proposed joint initiatives such as extraterritorial cultivation projects to grow water-intensive crops in Afghanistan’s more fertile regions while adhering to Iranian standards. He also called for cooperation in industrial livestock production, suggesting that joint projects could significantly meet Iran’s meat supply needs.
On Wednesday, Ghalibabadi and his delegation concluded their visit by leaving Herat to tour border areas and address ongoing issues.
An Iranian delegation arrived in Kabul on Sunday as part of the Neighborhood Policy to negotiate with Afghan officials on borders, water and legal cooperation.
