Medical personnel at Al Shifa Hospital have confirmed that two people have died in Beit Rahiya following recent attacks by the occupation regime.
The attack came after a night of relentless shelling that killed more than 100 Palestinians, including at least 46 children, across the devastated enclave.
The Israeli regime’s new attacks come despite public declarations that it will return to a cease-fire agreement reached in October with the Gaza-based resistance movement Hamas.
“This is a crime. It can’t be either a ceasefire or a war, it can’t be both. The children couldn’t sleep and thought the war was over,” said Khadijah al-Husni, a mother of displaced people who is sheltering with her children in a school in Gaza’s Shati refugee camp.
She said the assault occurred at a time when residents were “trying to breathe again and rebuild their lives.”
UN Secretary-General António Guterres condemned the civilian casualties and warned that peace “must not slip from our hands.”
Qatari mediators expressed dissatisfaction but said efforts were continuing for the next phase of the ceasefire, including discussions on disarming Hamas.
Resistance groups have warned that continued violations by Israel will hamper efforts to recover the bodies of prisoners and dead.
In a separate move, the Israeli regime banned Red Cross staff from visiting Palestinian detainees, saying the visits posed a “security risk.”
