According to national news, at the Manama Dialogue 2025 meeting hosted by Bahrain and held in cooperation with the International Institute for Strategic Studies, Omani Foreign Minister Badr Al Busaidi said on Saturday that Israel, not Iran, is the biggest cause of instability in the region, and encouraged Persian Gulf states to engage with Tehran instead of isolating Iran.
Al-Busaidi said five rounds of indirect nuclear negotiations between the United States and Iran, brokered by his country, had made significant progress before the Israeli attack. Three days before the sixth round of talks was to be held in June, Israel “launched bombs and missiles in an illegal and deadly act of sabotage.”
Negotiations between the United States and Iran were aimed at reaching a new agreement, but negotiations broke down when Israel and Iran began a 12-day war on June 13, 2025. The United States also intervened and carried out attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities.
“We have known for some time that the main source of security instability in the region is Israel, not Iran,” Al-Busaidi said at the IISS Manama Dialogue in Bahrain.
He said the Sultanate of Oman continues to support comprehensive dialogue as a strategic option to achieve regional security, peace and prosperity, adding: “Only through dialogue can we build a more stable and developed future for the countries of the region.”
On June 13, Israel launched a blatant and unprovoked invasion of Iran, sparking a 12-day war that left at least 1,064 people dead in the country, including military commanders, nuclear scientists, and civilians.
The United States also entered the war by bombing three Iranian nuclear facilities in a serious violation of international law.
In response, Iranian forces targeted strategic locations throughout the occupied territories, as well as Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, the largest US military base in West Asia.
On June 24, Iran successfully thwarted the invasion through successful retaliatory operations against both the Israeli regime and the United States.
