“There are no restrictions on this, as long as such activities are carried out exclusively for peaceful purposes and are effectively monitored by the IAEA,” Russia’s Permanent Representative to International Organizations in Vienna Mikhail Ulyanov told RIA Novosti.
In response to a question whether Tehran, which has lost formal restrictions, can be expected to take further steps in developing its nuclear program, he said: “It remains to be seen whether Iran will take further steps in developing its nuclear program. This will be decided by the Iranian authorities themselves. In principle, the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons does not provide for any strict restrictions or prohibitions, as long as nuclear activities are carried out exclusively for peaceful purposes and are effectively monitored by the IAEA.”
