Asked by reporters aboard Air Force One if he envisioned U.S. military action in Nigeria, Trump replied, “That’s a possibility.”
“I imagine a lot. They are killing Christians in record numbers in Nigeria… They are killing Christians, they are killing so many people. We are not going to allow that to happen,” the US president added.
President Trump warned on his Truth social platform that there is a good chance that the United States will immediately cease all aid and support to Nigeria and rush into the now-infamous “shoot-and-shoot” country to completely wipe out the terrorists committing these horrific atrocities.
He also directed the Department of Defense, which Trump renamed the Department of the Army, to prepare for possible action. “If we attack, it will be as fast, brutal and sweet as terrorist thugs attack our precious Christians!”
On Friday, the Trump administration re-added Nigeria to its list of “countries of special concern” due to restrictions on religious freedom.
The White House has provided no evidence that Christians are being targeted like other ethnic or religious groups. Nigeria also denies the allegations.
