The scene in northeastern Ohio was chaotic as some people fled and first responders performed life-saving measures, the Guardian reported.
The shooting occurred around 12:15 a.m. local time in Bath Township, about 15 miles (24 kilometers) northwest of Akron.
As of Sunday, it was one of at least 365 mass shootings (involving four victims) in the United States so far this year, according to the nonpartisan Gun Violence Archive. The continuing spate of mass shootings in the United States has fueled calls for stricter gun control, but Congress is largely unwilling or unable to address the issue.
At a news conference Sunday morning, Police Chief Vito Sinopoli said the severity of the victim’s injuries was not clear. It was also not immediately clear whether all nine people were shot, and one person’s leg injury may have been caused by a fall, he said.
He said it was unclear at this time what sparked the shooting or how many people fired their weapons. No arrests have been announced.
