In response to a media question asking if the Chinese side could confirm whether China’s position on the issue had changed after US President Donald Trump recently said he had discussed denuclearization with the leaders of China and Russia, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said China had already expressed its position on the issue multiple times. China’s nuclear forces are not on the same scale as those of the United States or Russia. According to the Global Times, he said it would be unfair, unreasonable and unrealistic to ask China to participate in nuclear disarmament negotiations at this stage.
Mao Zedong said that the United States, as the largest nuclear power, should sincerely fulfill its special and primary responsibility for nuclear disarmament, further significantly reduce its nuclear stockpiles, and create conditions for achieving comprehensive and complete nuclear disarmament.
