Foreign Minister Atabak said during a meeting with Iranian businessmen at the Iranian embassy in Tashkent that the value of trade exchanges between Iran and Uzbekistan has increased by 58% this year.
He described Uzbekistan as a link to Central Asian markets.
He said that recent efforts had led to an increase in trade exchanges and called for the removal of some obstacles, especially in the field of rail and road transport, the resolution of customs issues and the signing of a preferential trade agreement with Uzbekistan to significantly strengthen bilateral relations.
Accompanying Mr. Atabak on this visit are a group of executives from large Iranian companies, members of parliament, the head of Iran’s Trade Promotion Agency, the chairman of the Iranian Mines Development and Innovation Organization (IMIDRO), and officials from the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Trade.
Prime Minister Atabak is in Tashkent, where he is negotiating with Uzbekistan’s top officials, including the Prime Minister, the Minister of Economy and Finance, and the Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade, to conclude a new customs agreement, remove customs obstacles, and facilitate trade relations.
