Reuters, citing three Lebanese security officials and two Israeli officials, reported that the Lebanese army rejected a bold request from Israel to carry out house-to-house searches to find weapons in southern Lebanon.
According to the report, the Israeli regime has asked Lebanon in recent weeks to carry out such operations as part of the disarmament of Hezbollah, but the Lebanese army has stressed that such actions could lead to internal conflict.
Lebanese officials told Reuters that Tel Aviv has asked Beirut to carry out such searches, but stressed that “that will never happen.”
Nevertheless, the Lebanese army claimed that it could declare the removal of Hezbollah weapons from southern Lebanon by the end of this year, in response to pressure from the United States and Israel.
Meanwhile, Israeli air and ground attacks on Lebanon continue despite a ceasefire currently in effect between the two countries.
