A landslide in the city of Cilacap on Thursday buried more than a dozen houses in the village of Cibonin, Antara news agency reported, Reuters reported.
“We have found three more bodies, and only 17 more bodies have been found. We have been working as hard as we can,” Indonesian Disaster Management Agency deputy director Budi said.
Budi said the location was difficult for rescue teams because the victims were buried 3 to 8 meters (10 to 5 feet) deep.
The Southeast Asian country’s rainy season will begin in September and last until April, the Japan Meteorological Agency has said, raising the risk of flooding and heavy rain in many areas.
In January, heavy rains caused landslides in another Central Java city, Pekalongan, killing at least 25 people.
“We have found three more bodies, and only 17 more bodies have been found. We have been working as hard as we can,” Indonesian Disaster Management Agency deputy director Budi said.
The agency has so far recovered three bodies, the report added.
