Members of Iran’s Parliamentary Construction Committee met with Major General Amir Khatami, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, at the army headquarters in Tehran on Sunday.
During the meeting, Khatami stressed that maintaining and strengthening Iran’s defense advantages remains a top priority. “Among all sources of national strength, those related to the armed forces and the armed forces are the elements of defense power. We are working continuously to enhance these elements without wasting a moment in this area,” he said.
Referring to Iran’s performance during the 12-day war with the Israeli regime, Khatami cited the leadership of the leaders, the efforts of the armed forces, and the unity and consciousness of the Iranian people as the main factors that forced the enemy to call for a ceasefire. He said the army is committed to maintaining and strengthening these strengths to further strengthen Iran’s defense posture.
Khatami added that the experience of the 12-day war was used to improve readiness.
Major General Habibollah Sayari, Chief of Staff and Deputy Coordinator of the Iranian Armed Forces, submitted a report on military installations, buildings and land assets. He called for increased Congressional support for the Army’s infrastructure programs, saying stronger technology budgets directly contribute to strengthening the nation’s defense capabilities.
On June 13, while Washington and Tehran were in the process of nuclear negotiations, Israel launched a blatant and unprovoked invasion of Iran. The Israeli attack sparked a 12-day war that left at least 1,064 people dead in the country, including military commanders, nuclear scientists and civilians.
The United States also entered the war by bombing three Iranian nuclear facilities in a serious violation of international law.
In response, Iranian forces targeted strategic locations throughout the occupied territories, as well as Qatar’s Al Udeid Air Base, the largest US military base in West Asia.
On June 24, Iran successfully thwarted the invasion through successful retaliatory operations against both the Israeli regime and the United States.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in remarks on Sunday that Iran’s defense capabilities have been significantly strengthened since the war imposed in June, adding that it is well prepared to respond strongly if war breaks out again.
Araghchi stressed that lessons learned from the conflict have strengthened Iran’s deterrent capabilities. “If a similar war occurs again, we will be better prepared to respond. This preparation itself is the most powerful factor in preventing future conflicts,” he said. He also emphasized Iran’s enduring resilience in the face of four decades of sanctions, and that its resolve will not be undermined or its capabilities limited.
