The White House said the deal “deepens the U.S.-Saudi strategic partnership, expands opportunities for good-paying American jobs, strengthens critical supply chains, and strengthens regional stability, while prioritizing American workers, industry, and security,” according to Mehr news agency.
Prime Minister Bin Salman earlier announced that Saudi Arabia had increased its May pledge to invest $600 billion in the United States, bringing the total to nearly $1 trillion, a key request from the U.S. president ahead of Tuesday’s meeting.
President Trump has agreed to provide Saudi Arabia with what he calls the “top-of-the-line” F-35 stealth fighter jet. The White House did not say how many jets would be sold or their variants, but confirmed they would be part of a “large-scale defense sales package.”
The defense agreement “strengthens the U.S. defense industrial base and ensures that Saudi Arabia continues to buy products from the United States,” he said. Saudi Arabia reportedly wanted 20 F-35s.
The total value of the deal was not disclosed, nor were other defense provisions included in the deal.
Trump and bin Salman also finalized an agreement on civil nuclear cooperation that lays the foundation for a long-term nuclear energy partnership and “confirmed that the United States and American companies will be selected as Saudi civil nuclear cooperation partners,” the White House said.
The agreement “ensures that all cooperation is conducted in a manner consistent with strong non-proliferation standards,” it added.
The United States and Saudi Arabia have signed a separate agreement on the Critical Minerals Framework, aiming to strengthen bilateral cooperation on resources and coordinate national strategies to “diversify critical mineral supply chains.”
The Memorandum of Understanding on Artificial Intelligence “will give Saudi Arabia access to world-leading American systems while protecting American technology from foreign influence, ensuring American innovators shape the future of global AI,” the White House said.
No agreement documents were immediately available.
